The Arcadia Credit
Union will
NEVER email or call you and
ask you for any personal information,
such as your User ID, password, Social
Security number, ATM PIN number, etc,
etc. You may be asked to verify
your identity when you initiate a call to
the Credit Union.
At
least one Wisconsin credit union has
reported that members and others have
received bogus "phishing" emails
claiming to be from the credit union
itself. Embedded within the email
is a link to a spoofed website that
appears to be the credit union's
legitimate site. Once the member
is redirected to the spoofed website,
the scan email asks the member to fill
in required information to keep his/her
credit/debit cards or online banking
active. The spoofed website asks
for name, account number, card numbers
and other sensitive account information.
Because a spoofed
website can have a very authentic
appearance, members may be lulled into
giving up their credit and debit card
information, including PINs.
In a new twist of
this scam, members may get emails
telling them that they will be given
cash for answering questions in an
online customer satisfaction survey.
A link sends the member to a spoofed
website. The catch is that to
credit the reward to the member, the
spammer needs a credit union User ID and
password, as well as a credit card
number, expiration date, three digit
security number, Social Security number,
ATM PIN number, zip code, mother's
maiden name and email address. The
ploy of using a cash reward for a
customer service survey can be an
effective phishing lure.
When you use
the Arcadia Credit Union website, you
can be sure you are on the Credit
Union's website by looking in the
address bar in Internet Explorer or
Netscape Navigator. You will see
either
www.arcadiacu.com or
https://asp.datamatic.net as the
prefix of the web address. Either
of these two prefixes means that you are on
the Arcadia Credit Union web site.
Any other prefixes in the address bar
are fraudulent.
